Migrations in Boundary Bay

North Delta 2024 Earth Day Photo Contest

For the North Delta 2024 Earth Day Photo Contest, the theme was “Natural Areas” to highlight ways these areas “play a vital role in supporting native species and biodiversity, making them essential components of our community’s ecological health”.

North Delta has so many beautiful areas to choose from, so it wasn’t easy to decide on what to submit. Ultimately, I chose this photo taken in Boundary Bay because it is right on the Pacific Flyway, an incredibly important bird area that attracts visitors from all of the neighbouring cities as well as Delta locals. The photo shows just a small portion of the massive flock of ducks (mostly Northern Pintails, but a few Mallards, American Wigeons, and Green-Winged Teals scattered throughout) that were enjoying a rest during their migration

I’ve added this image as a canvas print to my shop for anyone who’d like to bring a little piece of Delta’s natural beauty into their home.
